Putney to Charing Cross taxi

Along the Thames to the Strand

The classic route from Putney to Charing Cross is one of the nicest drives in London. It runs along the Chelsea Embankment, past Pimlico and Millbank, by the Houses of Parliament and up the Victoria Embankment to the station on the Strand. In normal traffic it takes around half an hour. Charing Cross is inside the Congestion Charge zone, so check your quote for journeys in charging hours.

Trains from Charing Cross

Charing Cross is a Southeastern terminus, with trains through south-east London to towns across Kent such as Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Hastings. Embankment Underground station is just behind it, near the river.

More than a station

Plenty of people book a Putney to Charing Cross taxi without catching a train at all. The station is a landmark drop-off for Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, Covent Garden and the West End theatres. Tell us where you're actually going and we'll stop as close as the traffic allows.

Charing Cross to Putney after a show

When the curtain comes down, thousands of people head for the same Tube entrances. A pre-booked Charing Cross to Putney taxi gets you home without the crush. Book the return when you book the outward trip. For nights out in a group, a 7 seater taxi keeps everyone together. Nearby terminals: Victoria and Waterloo.

Covent Garden, the Strand and the river

Charing Cross is surrounded by places people want to go: Covent Garden's piazza, the hotels and restaurants along the Strand, Somerset House and the gardens on the Embankment. If you're meeting friends, a drop-off at the station is often the easiest landmark for everyone to find.

Trains south from Charing Cross

Most trains leaving Charing Cross call at Waterloo East and London Bridge before heading into south-east London and Kent. If you're catching a late train south, a taxi from Putney gets you there without changing on the Underground. Coming back, we can collect you from whichever of the three stations suits your journey.

Events and road closures in central London

Trafalgar Square and the Mall host some of London's biggest events, from New Year's Eve to parades, celebrations and the finish of the London Marathon. On those days, roads around Charing Cross close for hours and the station gets very busy. If your journey falls on an event day, book early and tell us, so we can plan a drop-off and pickup outside the closures. Embankment, a short walk away by the river, is often an easier meeting point when the Strand is shut.

Galleries and concerts around Trafalgar Square

The National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery face Trafalgar Square, and St Martin-in-the-Fields on the corner holds candlelit concerts most weeks. All three are a two-minute walk from Charing Cross, so the station is a sensible drop-off for a day at the galleries or an evening concert.
