Journeys we make with pets

Pet owners book us for all sorts of trips. Routine vaccinations and check-ups, appointments at specialist animal hospitals, the groomer every six weeks, a weekend at the kennels or cattery, and dog daycare when work gets busy. We also take families moving home with their animals, and people heading to pet-friendly hotels for a break.

Some of the happiest journeys are the simplest: a dog who has outgrown the walk to Putney Heath, or an older dog going for a run on Wimbledon Common or in Richmond Park.

Dog friendly taxis for large and small dogs

A small dog on a lead fits easily in a saloon. A big retriever, two spaniels or a dog crate needs more room, so we'll suggest an estate or a 6 seater MPV with space in the back. Telling us the breed or rough weight when you book is the easiest way to get the right car first time.

Before you travel with your pet

• Use a secure carrier for cats and small animals, and a lead and harness for dogs.
• Bring a blanket or towel so your pet has something familiar to sit on.
• Avoid a big meal just before the journey if your pet is a nervous traveller.
• For kennels and catteries, keep vaccination records handy.
• Carry water and a bowl for longer trips.

Pet taxi to vets and animal hospitals

A poorly animal is stressful enough without worrying about parking. We'll take you to your local vet in Putney or further afield to a specialist referral centre, and you can book the return trip at the same time if you know roughly how long the appointment will take.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are carried on every journey at no extra charge. By law, licensed private hire drivers must carry them unless they hold a medical exemption, and the booking doesn't need to be made on our pet service.

Older, anxious and recovering animals

Some pets find car journeys hard. An elderly dog with stiff joints, a cat who hates the carrier, or an animal coming home after an operation all need a calmer trip. A few things help: put a familiar blanket in the carrier, cover it with a light cloth so the outside world is less busy, and keep the journey as direct as possible. Mention any of this when you book so the driver knows to take it gently.

If you're going away and leaving your pet at kennels, you can book both legs at once: the drop-off before you fly and the collection when you're home.
